WIPP News:Recovery activities at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant continue to move in a positive direction.
As part of increased emergency response capabilities, the WIPP Fire Department and Emergency Response Team are participating in advanced training, improving overall capabilities and receiving advanced certifications.
Training and validation testing has included written examinations, as well as intense physical and practical testing. All WIPP firefighters are certified at Firefighter Level I/II. In addition, 90 percent are certified by the Pro Board or the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.
The Pro Board is an internationally-recognized method for acknowledging professional achievement in fire service and related fields.
Members of the WIPP Emergency Response Team are also enhancing their skills by participating in new training and qualifications standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
The WIPP Fire Department is also enhancing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) proficiencies to ensure they have the capability to provide efficient and
effective emergency medical care.
Next WIPP Town Hall Meeting Scheduled Oct. 29
The City of Carlsbad and DOE will co-host its Town Hall meeting featuring updates on WIPP recovery activities. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, at Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 101 N. Halagueno St.
