LENSIC News:
SANTA FE—The Lensic Performing Arts Center now welcomes patrons to bring drinks to their seats during Lensic Presents performances.
“We’re pleased to offer this new option for those who want to enjoy a drink—whether that’s tea, a soft drink or an alcoholic drink—while enjoying a show,” Executive Director Joel Aalberts said. “No more feeling rushed to finish a beverage before show time or during intermission.”
Until now, drinks were permitted only in the Lensic’s lobby area. But, as Aalberts explains, “drinks in seats” is fast becoming the standard at venues across the country.
“We’ve found a way to do it by using lidded, recyclable cups to prevent spills and keep our historic theater space protected,” he said. “We tested the new policy at several performances over the past four weeks and decided to make it official as everything has gone smoothly.”
Only drinks purchased at the Lensic’s lobby bars and contained in lidded cups may be brought inside the theater auditorium. As always, per state liquor laws, alcoholic beverages purchased at The Lensic cannot be taken outside the building
The new policy applies only to events presented by The Lensic: Lensic Presents performances, Met: Live in HD broadcasts, and National Theatre Live broadcasts. Groups that rent The Lensic and present their own shows will determine their own drink policies on a case by case basis. Lensic staff members will make sure those policies are followed.
The Lensic continues to encourage patrons to drink responsibly.
The nonprofit Lensic Performing Arts Center owns and maintains a landmark historic theater in the heart of Santa Fe, is the hub for year-round performing arts and culture, and serves the community through affordable artistic programming (including our Lensic Presents series) and groundbreaking educational programs that touch the lives of more than 14,000 students each year.
