The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos hosts the 2021 Free Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Enterprise Bank & Trust, Saturday Sept. 4 at Overlook Park in White Rock.

This year, the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, Sancre Productions and Los Alamos County have teamed up to host an all-day music festival complete with food trucks, a Kidz Fun Zone and a Community Resource Fair all culminating with an incredible fireworks show.

Daily Postcard: White-Lined Sphinx Moth Sipping Nectar

During the early morning hours while it was still a bit dark Thursday a white-lined sphinx moth (Hummingbird Moth) was spotted in action at a residence in White Rock. White-lined sphinx moths feed in a similar manner to the hummers, using their long proboscis (tongue) to sip nectar (so this species and several other moths are sometimes called ‘hummingbird moths’. The pink median band on the hind-wing, which is distinctive of the species isn’t easy to photograph – you can’t see it when the moth is at rest or usually even in flight. Final 2021 Summer Concert: Santana Tribute Band Smooth

Santana tribute band Smooth performs Friday for the final concert of the 2021 Los Alamos Summer Concert Series presented by Toyota of Santa Fe.

The concert is co-sponsored by SMSI and Merrick. Española Latino band Divino will perform at 6:30 p.m.  as the opening band. The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association will perform as the student opening act and the Family YMCA will conduct pre-concert Zumba dance warm-ups. The fun starts at 5:45 p.m.

Los Alamos Historical Society Lecture Series Begins Sept. 14

Los Alamos Historical Society News:

The Los Alamos Historical Society announces its 2021–22 lecture series.

The first lecture is 7 p.m., Sept. 14 in Fuller Lodge, with a presentation from Michael Ettema on “Maria and Julian’s Pottery Revolution”.

The series continues on second Tuesdays through fall and spring.

Historical Society lectures are free and follow public health guidelines for indoor gatherings (currently, masks are required inside Fuller Lodge).
