Start the ScienceFest Weekend off with a bang at the Rocket-Fueled Family Fun Night 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Walkup Aquatic Center. 
 
The floating island will be set up in the pool and the bounce house on the patio. Other activities will include a cannonball contest in the deep end, and a coin treasure hunt in the shallow end with great prizes for the winners. There is no additional cost for this night besides your regular admission into the pool. Come join in the fun!

This weekend the Los Alamos Nature Center has three astronomy programs:
  • A special summer stars event 8-10 p.m., Friday, July 14;
  • The PBS Science Café 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 15; and
  • The planetarium film From Earth to the Universe playing at 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16.
John Lorenzen is leading Friday’s fascinating summer stars workshop. This two-hour program will begin in the planetarium and include an introduction to seasonal constellations.

Folks, we outdid ourselves! The 2017 4th of July Celebration at Overlook Park was the best attended yet.

The hot sunny skies gave way to some clouds and respite from the heat. All who entered the park on Meadow Lane were greeted by the Fire Departments huge flag. It’s a great reminder that we really do live in a special place.
