By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB“Beauty and the Beast” opened in theatres on March 17 as a 3-D Disney movie, bringing to live-action the 1991 animated fairy tale. It is actually quite entertaining!
The French tale, La Belle et Le Bête, comes from an anthology written in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. Liberties have been taken with the story ever since. But, for the modern viewer, the hugely popular 1991 animated Disney feature set a new standard for the tale. This newest version is meant to bring that story to live action, though the magical aspects still require CGI to pull it

It is time again to prepare for the annual EGGSTRAVAGANZA! Last year 15,000 plastic eggs (filled with goodies) were spread over the golf course.
More than 800 kids (ages 12 and under) raced to gather. It is always a great time for all ages of kids.
All kids are invited to attend. Please arrive early.

The author of “Rio: a Photographic Journey down the Old Rio Grande,” Melissa Savage, will speak 7 p.m. March 23 at Mesa Public Library. Savage is a conservationist, geographer, professor emerita with UCLA, and director of the Four Corners Institute in Santa Fe. The book is published by UNM Press and contains an introduction by William de Buys, along with essays by Rina Swentzell, G. Emlen Hall, Juan Estevan Arellano, Estella Leopold, Norma Elia Cantu, Jan Reid and Dan Flores. Read More

The Board of Directors of the Los Alamos Museum of Art hosted a special reception Thursday evening at the Karen Wray Gallery on Central Avenue in downtown Los Alamos. The Board is pictured in front of their own artwork, which was displayed at the event. Many of the board members are artists themselves. LAMOA is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. The group has developed a mission statement and devised educational programs for students, adults and seniors, as well as an outreach program. STATE News:
SANTA FE – The New Mexico House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 121 Wednesday evening, a bill that would ban so-called conversion therapy for individuals under 18 years of age.
The bill is sponsored by Sen. Jacob Candelaria (D-Albuquerque) and Rep. Andrés Romero (D-Albuquerque). Conversion therapy, aimed at changing a person’s sexual orientation and/or gender identity, has been rejected by the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association.
