ALBUQUERQUE  To the delight of audience members of all ages, the New Mexico Philharmonic and the New Mexico Ballet will perform Alice in Wonderland at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque.
 
The newly appointed artistic director of the New Mexico Ballet, Natalie Harris, has created an extraordinary ballet telling of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice stories, which are the basis of a successful 2010 Johnny Depp movie and its soon-to-be-released sequel, Alice through the Looking Glass.

State Museums; Historic Sites Closed Easter Sunday

The four state museums in Santa Fe, the New Mexico Museum of Art and New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governor’s both located on the Plaza, and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art both located on Museum Hill, will be closed Easter Sunday.
 
The museums will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29.

Egg Splash At Aquatic Center Saturday

This Saturday, March 26, will be a fun-filled day at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center with warm water, floating eggs and great prizes. 

This is an annual event for the community, and children up to 16 years of age are encouraged to participate. The event begins promptly at 1 p.m. with the youngest age group. The cost is $2.50 for each participant (16 years and younger).

 “Race” is a new film about the African-American Olympic athlete Jesse Owens, once called the “fastest man on earth.”
 
The film covers Jesse’s college years when he broke several records in track, his qualifying for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, and the U.S. Olympic Committee’s debate and vote over whether the U.S. should participate in an Olympics hosted by the Nazis.

Brown Bag: Pianist Charles Lieou Performs April 6

Charles Lieou, a pianist and postdoctoral research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory, is making his local debut at the upcoming Brown Bag show.

Lieou’s recital will feature pieces by Bach and Schubert. The free noontime show, sponsored by Los Alamos Arts Council, is at the United Church of Los Alamos. The Brown Bag’s usual venue, Fuller Lodge, is being renovated.

Lieou explained he selected Bach’s “Partita No. 4 in D, BWV 828” because it is a “very bright piece.”
