Death of Klinghoffer Showing In Santa Fe Nov. 15

For those disappointed that the Metropolitan Opera canceled its HD broadcast of the opera by John Adams, a group of opera lovers is sponsoring a showing of a studio version film of the opera released in 1993.
 
The composer conducts the London Symphony Orchestra. The film has clips interspersed, and audience discretion is advised. This showing will be at the same date as the originally scheduled Met broadcast at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15. This two hour film will be introduced by Mary Kime and followed by questions and discussion.

New Mexico Pianist Gavin Laur Is A Division Finalist In MTNA Senior Piano Competition

Gavin Laur, a Santa Fe native, will travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. in January to compete as a Division Finalist in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Piano Competition.

Laur, the son of Ruth and Paul Laur, earned this opportunity after winning the Senior Division of the M1NA Statewide Piano Competition. A Junior at the New Mexico School for the Arts, Laur has been studying piano for 10 years and is currently a student of Stein way Artist Jacquelyn Helin.

Los Alamos artist Fran Bergstein has had a painting accepted by the Rio Grande Art Association’s 12th annual juried painting and sales exhibition. The exhibition features 114 paintings by artists working in a variety of styles and media.
