‘Mud’ Portrays Life on Arkansas Delta

Movie Review by KIRSTEN LASKEY

“Mud” requires patience. The film takes its time reaching the climax but don’t get antsy and walk out of the theater. You’ll be glad you didn’t.

The movie centers on two young teenage boys – Ellis and his friend, Neckbone – who live in a rural area of Mississippi. While exploring a small island in the Mississippi River, they come upon a boat that mysteriously wound up in a tree’s branches. They consider this to be the perfect hideout until the friends discover someone already inhabits it.

The boat’s inhabitant, Mud, is a strange Read More

R.I.P.D. Should Rest in Peace

To be honest, we expected director Robert Schwentke’s R.I.P.D (Omega) to be terrible just from watching the trailers. But we walked into it with an open mind and not expecting too much. We just wanted a fun summer blockbuster and this film seemed to have the necessary ingredients: comedy, grand action, famous actors, and the undead.

This hope vanished instantly. Almost every aspect of the film was a failure. In the beginning, we were hoping to have a good Read More

DESPICABLE ME 2: Funny, Stupid, and Quite Good

Despicable Me 2, directed by animation heavyweights Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, follows the story of the villain-turned-father Gru (Steve Carell.) Gru’s adventure to defeat a new supervillain and discover love along the way is both hilarious and enjoyable to watch.

Since this is an animated comedy, we can’t look at it as anything more. There is little to criticize, and although Despicable Me 2 is certainly not an excellent addition Read More
