Teatro Paraguas at 3205 Calle Marie in Santa Fe will host seven women poets for a poetry reading to benefit two important non-profit organizations: Santa Fe Dreamers and Solace. Voices of Resistance – a poetry reading and benefit is 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, for Santa Fe Dreamers and Solace at Teatro Paraguas. Tickets are by donation.

Daily Postcard: This Solitary Sandpiper was seen May 2 at the pond behind the Water Treatment Plant in White Rock. According to All About Birds and the Audubon Society, these birds are robin-sized. They are also long distance migrants, breeding in Canada and Alaska but migrating, sometimes through parts of New Mexico, almost always to Central and South America and the Caribbean. LALT Seeks Helpers To Pack Up Performing Arts Center

LALT News:

Due to upcoming renovations, the Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) must vacate the Performing Arts Center at 1670 Nectar St. by the end of May.

In order to do so, everything must be packed.

A very small band of dedicated (and exhausted) volunteers have been working hard doing as much as they can but they need help.

As many people as possible are invited to join one or more of the next three work parties:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10;
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17; and
  • 9 a.m. and onward Sunday, May 18.

Chicoma Mountain is the highest point in the Jemez Mountains and its tree line in this area is exceptionally high, and the mountain is forested almost all the way to its summit, which is conspicuous from Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Española. A Special Pedernal Viewed This Morning From Abiquiu Lake

A special Pedernal viewed this morning from Abiquiu Lake. Cerro Pedernal, known locally as just Pedernal, is one of the most recognized landmarks in north-central New Mexico – in the northern Jemez Mountains south of Abiquiu Lake in the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. The name is Spanish for ‘flint hill’. The peak is capped by at least five flows of andesite and basalt that likely were erupted from a volcanic center on Encino Point, the highland to the west-southwest of Pedernal.
