Los Alamos Special School Board Meeting June 26

LAPS News:

The Los Alamos School Board will hold a special board meeting at 5 p.m., June 26 at the Administrative Offices, 2075 Trinity Dr., Suite V.

The agenda will include discussion of the 20-Year Facility Master Plan Committee, updates on the Education Effectiveness System Evaluation Plan, Strategic Plan, Quality of Education Surveys, Policy Review for Policy 1240 School Visitation, Policy Review for Special Education Policies 5200-5212 and Summer School Schedule and School Board Retreats.

Los Alamos’ Frank Kuzminski Awarded Master’s Degree from Harvard Kennedy School

EDUCATION News:

Frank Kuzminski of Los Alamos graduated May 29  from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a Master’s in Public Administration degree (MPA). 

Kuzminski, son of Jozef and Barbara Kuzminski of White Rock, has served on tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in Korea as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer. He is also a West Point graduate. Following graduation, he will be on the Army Staff for Strategic Plans and Policy at the Pentagon.

LA Airport Sponsors ‘Frozen’ at Sundown Today

COUNTY News:

Disney’s uber-popular movie “Frozen” will be shown at sundown today at East Park in Los Alamos.

The event is sponsored by the Los Alamos County Airport as part of the summer “Movies in the Park” series.

Airport Manager Peter Soderquist will be available before the show to hand out schedules for the new commercial air service being offered through New Mexico Airlines with convenient daily flights available between Los Alamos County Airport and Albuquerque’s Sunport.

Breezy and cool conditions greeted all of the runners and walkers and their eager dogs for the 17th Annual Dog Jog April 26.

This year’s Dog Jog raised more than $12,000 for Friends of the Shelter. Friends of the Shelter (FOS) is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to abandoned animals, and to pets and their owners in northern New Mexico.

Launch of VA Open Burn Pit Registry Helps Veterans Get Needed Care

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall welcomed news that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched the Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry, which he was instrumental in creating through bipartisan legislation.

Special Camp Promotion for Northern New Mexico Girls

GIRL SCOUT News:

Several upcoming camp sessions at Camp Elliott Barker in Angel Fire are being offered at a drastically reduced rate for Northern New Mexico girls. Camp sessions are available for $150 – about half the regular cost.

This promotion is available first come, first served, and while space allows. Girls do not have to be members of the Girl Scouts to participate. Campers must submit payment in full by June 27. Luján Writes to DOJ on Veterans Treatment at Albuquerque VA Facility
