FBI: Shiprock Man Sentenced For Federal Theft

ALBUQUERQUE — Orlando Jay Johnson, 24, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Shiprock, has been sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque to 12 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for his conviction on theft occurring in Indian Country.
 
Johnson was arrested Oct. 31, 2014, after officers of the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety were called to a fast food restaurant in Shiprock in response to a report that an elderly Navajo man had been robbed of his wallet and money.

On March 25, 1943, I arrived at 109 East Palace in Santa Fe to start work at Los Alamos. The House was not finished yet in Los Alamos, so I spent a week at Rancho del Monte in Tesuque and then another week or so on the screened-in porch of the Big House.
 
Finally, the first dormitory was built and I moved in. The floor plan was rather simple. Two floors had a series of two bedroom units sharing a shower, sink and toilet. At the south end of the dorm was a day room with a fireplace and a small kitchen.

The National Weather Service has announced a monsoon moisture surge with flash flooding possible over the holiday weekend.

 
Timing – Moisture will surge into the area today and significantly increase the coverage of showers and storms with heavy rainfall through Independence Day.
 
Location – The heaviest rainfall is expected to impact Central and Eastern NM Thursday and Friday, then over the Rio Grande Valley and Continental Divide Saturday.

NM Receives $3 Million In Major Disaster Funds

DENTON, Texas  On Oct. 6, 2014, at the request of Gov. Susana Martinez, President Obama declared a major disaster for the state of New Mexico.
 
In June 2015, the state of New Mexico was awarded some $3 million in federal disaster assistance for repairs to roads in Lincoln County following severe storms and flooding in July and August 2014. The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management continues to administer the funds and provide support to the county as it recovers.
