County Economic Vitality Administrator Speaking at Lunch with a Leader

LWV News:

The League of Women Voters will have Greg Fisher, Los Alamos’ Economic Vitality Administrator as their speaker for Lunch with a Leader at 11:45 a.m., Thursday June 14.

The luncheon is at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St. (small building across from the back of the high school).

Food will be provided by Ruby K’s. When you RSVP, you will be able to order the sandwich or salad you would like to have. Chips, pickles, and cookies will accompany the meal and water will be provided. The cost is $12, which includes tax and gratuity.

Ryan Finn on trombone during Friday night’s concert at the Coffee Booth. Finn is a native of Los Alamos and has returned after spending seven years living in the Caribbean. The Ryan Finn Quartet is an infusing of jazz standards with a calypso twist, or infusing calypso with american jazz depending upon what the original tube was. DEA Administrator Receives Rare Honor

DEA News:

DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart became one of the first foreign officials in history to receive Mexico’s Merit of Honor from President Felipe Calderon for her leadership and commitment in supporting the Mexican Federal Police (SSP) in combating organized crime.

The ceremony took place June 2 in Iztapalapa, Mexico.

County Council to Review EEOC Ruling in Closed Session

COUNTY News:

County Council Chair Sharon Stover said that Council will review in closed session June 12, last week’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruling regarding former Assistant County Administrator Diana Stepan’s charges against Los Alamos County.

The EEOC found the County guilty of sex discrimination as well as retaliation against Stepan.

Stepan filed a grievance against former County Administrator Tony Mortillaro. She was fired Jan. 3, 2011.

Local Dancers Rank Well at Ireland Competition

Los Alamos dancers Maria Jones and Natalie Smith both placed at the CRN World Open Championships in Wexford, Ireland last weekend.

Facing extremely tough competition from some of the world’s best Irish dancers, Maria placed 7th in the under-16 age group and Natalie placed 8th in the under-18 age group.

Santa Fe dancer Shannon Kossmann placed 9th in her age group. Maria’s dress (at right) was made by Los Alamos dance mom Carolyn Bossert.

The Blue Window Bistro celebrates a second anniversary under the ownership of Melissa Paternoster this summer.
