Council approved replacing all parts of the existing Charter pertaining to Initiative/Referendum/Recall/Charter Amendments. Council votes 6 to 1 to approve Charter Amendment Alternate 2 removing the requirement for legal review prior to circulating petitions. Espanola Man to Serve 10 Years in Prison

FBI News:

A federal judge in Albuquerque has sentenced James Aley White, 31, of Espanola to a 120-month term of imprisonment for his bank robbery conviction.

White will be on supervised release for three years after he completes his prison sentence. He also was ordered to pay full restitution to the bank that was the victim of his crime.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that on Nov. 15, 2011, White pled guilty to robbing the Bank of America at 8040 Academy Road NE in Albuquerque on Aug. 19, 2011.

Bandelier Advising of Upcoming Closure May 22 or 23

Jason Lott, Superintendent of Bandelier National Monument, has announced that the main visitor area in Frijoles Canyon will be closed for at least part of the day on either Tuesday, May 22 or Wednesday, May 23. 

“We will be having very large pieces of equipment working in the canyon that day to install an interim crossing of the creek,” he said. “We are not certain yet which day, or at what time, this work will happen, but we want to minimize the impacts on our visitors.”

Deer Trap Mesa has been our family’s favorite hike for more than 30 years, so there shouldn’t be any surprises, right?  Wrong!  

Yesterday we set out on the trail that leaves from the very end of Barranca Road on a typically windy Sunday afternoon.

A major milestone in the development of a community garden by the Los Alamos Youth Food Project has been accomplished. The garden’s field at the Los Alamos Middle School has been leveled. Good fill dirt is being added. Leveling is a key step that is necessary before planter boxes can be built.
