Los Alamos Kite Festival Returns May 19-21, 2023

The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) is hard at work planning for its annual Kite Festival in 2023.

After a multi-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions and last year’s fire emergencies, LAAC is bringing this multi-day event back to Los Alamos County at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Several community organizations will be hosting kite decorating and building workshops with children in the community and April 19, LAAC will host the Paseo Project, from Taos, as they introduce their artist in residence, Jemila McEwan to the after-school programs at Fuller Lodge Art Center.  Read More

The County’s annual budget hearings are scheduled for April 17, 18, 24, and 25, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, to review and approve the budget for July 1, 2023, through June 30,2024, the second fiscal year of the biennial budget cycle.

The proposed FY2024 budget is guided by the goals and priorities established in the 2023 Strategic Leadership Plan adopted by County Council earlier this year and the subsequent Management Action Plans developed by County staff.

Los Alamos County Seeks Assistance Contacting Families Of Those Killed In 1972 Plane Crash

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County will dedicate a memorial May 19 at the Los Alamos County Airport to commemorate the tragic crash of Ross Aviation Flight 7 that took the lives of the pilot and eight Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory employees 51 years ago.

County officials seek the public’s assistance in contacting the family members of those who perished in that crash.

Chartered by the Atomic Energy Commission to transport employees from Albuquerque to Los Alamos, the twin-engine light aircraft crashed May 19, 1972, shortly after takeoff. There were no survivors.

Six Overdose Calls In One Week Result In Four Deaths In Los Alamos County

LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police and Fire have responded to six unrelated calls at separate Los Alamos residences over the last week related to unresponsive patients due to potential overdoses.

Of those six cases, four Los Alamos residents have died. They ranged in age from 27 to 56 (two male and two female).

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) suspects the deaths are overdoses related to either pain medication or illicit drugs. LAPD also has confirmed Fentanyl was recovered at the scene of one of these deaths.
