Los Alamos County is experiencing significant challenges hiring and retaining employees. During the regular council meeting Tuesday night, representatives from various County departments including fire, police and the Department of Public Utilities pleaded with council to address the situation, mainly by increasing salaries.

As one utility department employee stated, “For taking care of the public, the County should take care of its workers.”

Atomic City Transit Closed Monday Sept. 5 For Labor Day

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit regular scheduled bus service will not operate Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day.

Bandelier Shuttle service will continue to operate with 20-minute service Saturday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 5.

Regular Atomic City Transit service will resume Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Due to staffing shortage, Route 2M will be suspended Tuesday, Sept. 6, through Friday Sept. 9.  Peak service for Route 1 and Route 6 also shall remain suspended until further notice.

Update: Ernesto Burciaga has been located and returned to Beehive Assisted Living in White Rock.

LAPD News:

Ernesto Burciaga went missing from Beehive Assisted Living in White Rock at approximately 9:57 this morning.

Burciaga was last seen in camo clothing. He has a beard, is 5’8 or 5’9 tall and weighs 180 lbs.

Burciaga suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

Customer Care Phones Are Back In Business!

COUNTY News:

After a problem with the phone management system for the Los Alamos County Customer Care Center (CCC) took the main phone number for CCC down for the better part of the day, the system is back up and running again.

Anyone who needs to contact CCC or the Department of Public Utilities can again call 505.662.8333.
