County Moves To ‘Set’; No Evacuations But Citizens Asked To Prepare 

COUNTY News:

Due to the Cerro Pelado Fire, Los Alamos County (both townsite and White Rock) moved to the “set” phase of the “ready, set, go” program as of 8 a.m. today, May 9.

The County moved to maximum telework and closed non-essential facilities such as libraries.

County officials clarify that there is no immediate emergency; however, citizens should stay informed, review their evacuation plans, prepare a “go bag”, and solidify a communication plan with area evacuation and contact information.

County: Stop Outdoor Watering During Set Phase

COUNTY News:

Officials from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are asking residents and businesses to stop outdoor water use until Los Alamos is no longer threatened by the Cerro Pelado Fire.

Residents should stop outdoor watering while in the Set phase of evacuation preparedness because outdoor watering negatively impacts pressure in the County’s water distribution system.

While the fire is not within the boundaries of that distribution system, water tanker trucks are being used to truck water closer to firefighting efforts.

Los Alamos DPU: Do Not Turn Your Gas Or Electricity Off!

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) advises residents NOT to turn off gas or electric service even when planning for potential evacuation.

“We are aware that mixed messaging has gone out from various sources on this topic,” Utility Manager Philo Shelton said. “We are trying to rein that messaging in and get the word out to customers that DPU is the official source for utility guidance and we do not want anyone turning their own meters off under any circumstances.”
