The USDA Forest Service issued the following update this morning on the Cerro Pelado Fire burning in the Jemez Mountains.

Los Alamos County Returns To ‘Ready’ Stage Tuesday

Cerro Pelado Fire conditions have improved, which means that Los Alamos County will return to the “Ready” stage of “Ready, Set, Go” Tuesday morning, May 17.

The community is advised to alert and pay attention to the news in case circumstances change.

DPU To Wave Late Fees On Missing Utility Bills

COUNTY News:

Billing specialists for the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) discovered today that a bill file sent to DPU’s printing contractor was inadvertently skipped over in the printing and mailing process.

The error affects customers on Cycle 23 who get hard-copy bills through the mail.

The missing bills are dated April 21 and copies are being mailed out today. DPU will not charge Cycle 23 customers with late fees on these bills. Cerro Pelado Update: 40% Contained; Residents And Employees Urged To Remain Vigilant

LANL News:

Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County, the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office and the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office issued the following update to the community on the Cerro Pelado Fire burning in the Jemez Mountains.

The Cerro Pelado Fire grew just 11 acres Saturday night, continuing a string of several days of smaller and smaller overnight growth since the fire began. It is now 45,602 acres and 40 percent contained.
