Community Invited To Tabletop Game Day At Mesa Library

COUNTY News:

The next Tabletop Game Day is 1-4:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10 at Mesa Public Library.

All ages are welcome to bring their board games or choose from the more than 125+ board games the library owns. Members of the library staff and volunteers will be hanging out hoping to play games with people at Mesa Public Library mostly in The Zone on the lower level.

Free popcorn and drinks will be available in The Zone area.

New Cell Phone Tower Erected In Totavi

The San Ildefonso Pueblo is erecting and will operate this new cell tower that has appeared recently in Totavi. This is part of Los Alamos County’s major Community Broadband Network (CBN) project. Construction on the County-owned, open-access fiber system is planned to start this summer. Key to this project is an 11-mile ‘middle mile’ fiber link with San Ildefonso Pueblo, providing critical redundancy off the hill. The Los Alamos County Council unanimously affirmed the appointment of Litzenberg as the new fire chief during its regular session on Dec. 16, 2025, following a nationwide search that began in fall 2025. The Art in Public Places (APP) Board is seeking community members committed to enhancing public spaces to help shape the artistic landscape of Los Alamos County.

Three board positions are coming open.

This offers a unique opportunity for new board members to influence how art enhances public spaces and enriches this community.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website, the best way to avoid hypothermia and frostbite is to stay warm and dry indoors and outdoors.

If you must go outside, dress for safety; wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. Trapped air between the layers will insulate you.

County: New Chargers For Electric Vehicles Are Operational

Twelve new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in front of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building are now fully operational and available for use following a two-month installation project.

The 12 stations are powered by six state-of-the-art Level 2 dual-port networked chargers. A fee of $0.23/kWh will apply for public use of the chargers, helping to offset the operational costs of the new infrastructure. Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is reminding customers to check whether their home or business is protected from potential sewer backups with a properly installed and maintained backwater valve.

Although DPU follows a rigorous maintenance program for cleaning and repairing sanitary sewer mains, obstructions can still occur for a variety of reasons. Sewer backups can be costly to clean up and may create public health risks for occupants.

Camp May Road Work Updated Due To Lack Of Snow

With high hopes for a snowy ski season at Pajarito Mountain, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) previously shortened closures on Camp May Road during the holidays. Unfortunately, the mountain is still too dry for skiing, and as such, the road closure schedule is being adjusted again to take advantage of the favorable weather conditions for construction.

Both branches of the Los Alamos Public Library invite families to ring in the new year early with the annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration Wednesday, Dec. 31. The free program runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Alert: Main Hill Road Closed Due To Rockslide

UPDATE: As of 8:25 a.m. the Main Hill Road has been cleared and reopened.

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) report that both east and westbound lanes of N.M. 502, Main Hill Road, are closed due to a rockslide near Anderson Overlook.

LAPD officers are on scene and the New Mexico Department of Transportation is en route. Traffic is being rerouted to East Jemez Road or the Truck Route. 

At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the roadway will reopen.
