Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Application Information And Handbook Now Available On County Website

COUNTY News:

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) application and program handbook are now available on the County website.

Community members, including individuals, property owners, and local businesses in the MRA districts, are encouraged to review these materials to learn more about redevelopment opportunities within the County’s MRAs.

Although the materials can be accessed now, applications will not be accepted until Jan. 5, 2026.

Los Alamos Airport To Host 3rd Annual Santa Fly-In Dec. 20

Santa is flying into town on Saturday, Dec. 20! Los Alamos Airport and the Experimental Aircraft Association Green Chile Chapter (EAA 691) invite the community to the third annual Santa Fly-In , 2-4 p.m. at the Airport Terminal (1040 Airport Road).

All are welcome to join this free, family-friendly holiday event featuring Santa’s arrival by plane, as well as crafts, snacks, and festive activities.

Public Safety Moment: Slow Down Especially In Ice & Snow!

COUNTY News:

Despite Thursday morning’s weather and hazardous road conditions, Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) officers conducted 20 traffic stops and issued nearly 30 citations, most of them for speeding.

Several drivers were cited for traveling more than 26 miles per hour – or more – over the posted speed limit.

Excessive speeding on wet or icy roads is extremely dangerous. LAPD reminds all drivers to slow down and exercise caution during their commutes—no matter the weather or road conditions.

First Half Of Property Taxes Due By Dec. 10, 2025

COUNTY News:

Property tax bills for 2025 were mailed to property owners Nov. 1 by Los Alamos County’s Finance Division. The deadline for the first half of property taxes is Dec. 10, 2025.

It is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure property taxes are paid to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.

Los Alamos County offers various methods to make it easy for payments to be made before the deadline. 

These methods are as follows:

Los Alamos Police Department Gains Three New Officers

Cpl. Adam Archuleta is sworn in by Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor to the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) Friday morning at the Justice Center. Cpl. The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) administrative office and Customer Care Center at 1000 Central Ave., Suite 130, will close during the lunch hour on Friday, Dec. 12 in celebration of the holiday season.

Los Alamos Fire Department Advises Community Portable Propane Fire Pits Are Prohibited At Holiday Lights Parade

LAFD News:

To keep the community safe, the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) advises that portable propane fire pits at the Dec. 6 Holiday Lights Parade on Central Avenue are prohibited.

Large crowds, tight spaces, and the presence of parade vehicles and floats create conditions where open flames and fuel sources are hazardous.

This measure is supported by Chapter 22-31(a)(1) of the Los Alamos County Code, which adopts the International Fire Code and places certain restrictions on the use of liquid propane at special events.
