The state of New Mexico updated its COVID-19 county map with risk designations applicable for the two-week period Feb 24–March 9. New Mexico’s ‘Red to Green’ framework includes two gating criteria: (1) Average daily cases below 8 per 100,000 residents, and (2) test positivity rate below 5 percent. SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) today announced the updated statewide COVID-19 map for the two-week period beginning today, Feb. 24, showing Los Alamos County has moved into the Green Level.
As of today there are 19 New Mexico counties at the Yellow Level and six at the Green Level, at which there are fewer restrictions on commercial and day-to-day activities amid decreased virus risk.

County Seeks Feedback With Open Forum Survey On Possible Purchase Of CB Fox And Reel Deal Buildings

Los Alamos County Council is seeking feedback regarding the possible purchase of the CB Fox and Reel Deal buildings.
A survey has been posted on the Open Forum page and will be open until 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.
The Council will discuss this topic and survey results at its 6 p.m., March 16 Council meeting on Zoom.
County staff from Public Works and their consultant (FBT Architects) presented options and various use scenarios at the Council’s Feb. 16 meeting.

During a strategic planning session held in October, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) established new environmental goals. However, would the community support these news goals?
To get the answer, a survey was conducted in December and its results were presented to BPU in January.
During an interview with the Los Alamos Daily Post Feb. 17, Department of Public Utilities (DPU) Manager Philo Shelton explained what the new environmental goals are:

DPU Announces Geotechnical Investigation Ahead Of Utility And Road Work On North Mesa Feb. 22 -26
COUNTY News:
Geo-Test, Inc., under contract with Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will conduct geotechnical investigations in the southern/eastern neighborhood of North Mesa in Los Alamos.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 22 through Friday, Feb. 26, Geo-Test will drill a total of five borings on Alamo Road and Capulin Road, Tsankawi Street (south of Alamo) and Cedro Court.
Minimal traffic delays are expected at the drilling sites.

Los Alamos County and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) will hold a vaccination clinic Monday, Feb. 22 in Griffith Gymnasium at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr.
Eligible Los Alamos residents who are registered on the NMDOH should have already received an email or a text message with information on how to schedule an appointment.

Los Alamos Man Charged With 27 Counts Related To Abuse Of A Child Under 13 Years Of Age

A warrant was issued Jan. 20 for Michael A. Novak, 60, of Los Alamos, wanted for rape of a child under 13, according to court documents obtained by the Los Alamos Daily Post.
The alleged crimes occurred Jan. 17-18. Los Alamos police arrested Novak in the afternoon of Jan. 20 at his apartment on Yucca Street. He was later released from jail after the District Attorney declined to request he remain in custody pending trial.
Novak is charged with 27 counts including:
- 12 counts of criminal sexual penetration (child under 13) (1st Degree);
- 12 counts of criminal sexual penetration
