Los Alamos Fire Department’s Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that she is enacting Baseline Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County, effective immediately.

Servey said the decision was made in partnership with LAFD’s Wildland Division today after reviewing the potential threat of wildfire, especially in light of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic emergency.

Canceled: Food Box Distribution At BESC Today

COUNTY News:

Today’s food box distribution in Los Alamos is CANCELED.

The Los Alamos County Social Services office was just contacted by the state Office of Aging and Long-Term Services staff announcing that the food boxes expected to arrive for pick-up noon to 4 p.m. today at the Betty Ehart Senior Center did not get loaded onto the truck this morning.

Traffic Alert: Nectar Closed For Utility Work 6 P.M. Today

Traffic Alert:

At 6 p.m. today, Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities water crews will close a section of Nectar Street, between 15th Street and 17th Street to replace a water line.

The closure is scheduled to remain in place until Friday evening, May 8. 

While the Nectar entrance into the northeast parking area for Central Park Square will be closed, the 15th Street entrance at Myrtle will remain open for both ingress and egress. 

The Nectar entrance into Central Park Square west of 17th Street (or across from the park) will not be affected.

No one could predict the COVID-19 pandemic but as a result of instituting changes at the Los Alamos Municipal Court, Judge Elizabeth Allen and her staff accomplished something few other courts are able to do at this time, which is continue operating and offering resources to those who need it.

Travel Lane At 20th And Oppenheimer Has Reopened

Los Alamos County Gas Crews finished up at 6 p.m. today and opened the lane at 20th Street to Oppenheimer Drive.

After temporarily closing a section of Trinity Drive, from 20th Street to Oppenheimer Drive, due to gas line break around 2 p.m. today, Trinity Drive is now reopened to traffic.

The section of the Trinity Drive was closed when a New Mexico Department of Transportation contractor inadvertently struck a 4-inch gas line while excavating a sink hole near Ashley Pond.

Los Alamos County Golf Course Re-Opens Friday With Restrictions Due To Amended Public Health Emergency Order

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Golf Course will re-open on Friday, May 8 as part of the announcement last week from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office indicating that golfing is now a permitted activity under her amended public health emergency order related to COVID-19.

Hours of operation will be shortened, and golfers must have a tee time in order to play. Tee times will be in 15-minute intervals 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.
