The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night starting at 8:15 p.m. (sunset) Saturday, June 1 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park in White Rock.
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. The planets Mercury, Mars, Jupiter (with its moons) and Saturn will potentially be visible during the evening.

Hydrant Testing Begins Next Week Through August

The Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) will be testing fire hydrants throughout Los Alamos County starting next week and activity will be continuing through August.
The purpose of hydrant testing is to ensure that they will provide an adequate water supply for fire suppression and to flush out sediments that have accumulated in the water distribution system over the past year.

Now through the summer, the Los Alamos Police Department will conduct traffic enforcement, focusing on accident related violations.
There also will be random DWI checkpoints throughout the County during this time frame.

Council Seeks Applicants For Board Of Registration

Because of a recent change in State legislation, the Los Alamos County Council is seeking applicants to fill a two-year term on the local Board of Registration.
Previously, nominations were solicited by the Chairs of the local Democratic, Libertarian and Republican parties, but the new law eliminated that requirement. There will be five members appointed to this Board.

County Crew Repairing Water Break On Walnut Street

Water crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities are working in the road to repair a water line break on Walnut Street.
There should be no interruption of water services to customers.
Repairs are estimated to be completed around noon today.

County Crews Work To Restore Water To Two Areas
COUNTY News:
Crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities are working to restore water to two areas of town.
Customers on 37, 36 and 35 streets south of Villa Street have little to no water pressure due to a water main break on 37 Street at the bend where 37 Street becomes 35 Street.
Water crews estimate that water will be restored by 7 p.m. today.
Additionally, customers on Alamo Road and Capulin Road, Tsankawi Street and Oro Court have little to no water pressure. Water crews are repairing a broken water valve and estimate water will be restored by 5 p.m. today.

Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympics

The Los Alamos Police Department will be running the torch to Jemez Springs to raise money and awareness for Special Olympic athletes in Los Alamos and New Mexico.
This is the 51st year of Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run that occurs each May.
