Los Alamos County Council Approves Resolution Supporting Health Security Act

Los Alamos County Council joined with 16 other New Mexico counties and 20 other cities when it unanimously approved a resolution to show support for the Health Security Act.

The resolution, which was introduced by Councilor Pete Sheehey Nov. 13 during the regular council meeting, was passed 5-0. Councilors Susan O’Leary and Rick Reiss were absent.

Letter To The Editor: Council’s Action On Health Care

This is a response to the County Council’s recent action on health care. I have a couple of chronic conditions that incur medical expenses that are about $3,000/month. Three years ago I didn’t have either of these problems, but when you get older medical issues can show up very quickly. Right now I have Medicare backed up by the Lab’s medical insurance. I don’t have co-pays or deductibles, so it works out well for me.

Since most people in Los Alamos do or did work at the lab, my health care benefits are pretty typical. I don’t want the State of New Mexico to mess that up.

Board Of Public Utilities To Consider Advanced Metering

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is seeking approval from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to award a contract for the purchase and installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for all of Los Alamos County.

AMI is a method of using communication technology to read meters remotely without having to physically access the meters on customers’ properties. In addition, DPU is requesting the BPU to allow an opt-out provision for customers who do not want AMI equipment on their properties, such as an electric smart meter and communication modules Read More

Traffic Alert: Utility Work On Iris Street Monday

Traffic Alert:

Natural gas crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will repair a gas line on Iris Street, just west of the 9th Street intersection behind the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and wrap up by 4 p.m. Monday.

Crews will excavate a section of road to repair the gas line on the south side of Iris behind the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.

First Half Of County Property Taxes Due Dec. 10

COUNTY News:

2018 property tax bills were mailed earlier in November. The first half of property taxes will become delinquent after Monday, Dec. 10.

Payment must either be made in person at the Customer Care Center by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10 or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.
