Reminder: NM 4 Full Road Closure Begins 9 p.m. Friday For 24 Hours

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will close a section of N.M. 4 between East Jemez Road and N.M. 502 (main hill) to all traffic.
The full road closure will be in effect for a 24-hour period beginning at 9 p.m. Friday Oct. 20 through 9 p.m. Saturday Oct. 21 to permit crews to safely install a large diameter water pipeline. East Jemez Road or the Truck Route will remain open at all times.

County Files Petition In Sherman Dog Case
COURT News:
A petition to adjudicate two dogs belonging to Leslie Sherman of White Rock as dangerous has been filed in First Judicial Court by Los Alamos County Attorney Alvin Leaphart.
Sherman was charged in Los Alamos Magistrate Court in April with two counts of keeping an animal known to be vicious and likely to attack human beings. The charges were in connection with the Mar. 29 death of a small dog at an Acoma Lane home. At that time, Sherman’s dogs were seized and kept at the Los Alamos Animal Shelter.

The petition, filed Oct.17, lists Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero as an interested party.

Los Alamos County Hires Cameron ‘Cam’ Humphres To Manage Airport
New Airport Manager Cameron ‘Cam’ Humphres
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County has hired a new manager for the airport. Los Alamos native Cameron “Cam” Humphres will begin his new job Nov. 6 with the County.
Humphres most recently worked as the airport manager for the City of Santa Fe. Prior to that he worked for eight years as executive director of South Dakota’s Rapid City Regional Airport.
In addition to his experience in airport management, Humphres brings accreditation from the American Association of Airport Executives, a commercial pilot’s license with multi-engine and instrument ratings,

County Settles Tort Claim For $4,000
By MAIRE O’NEILLA suit filed against the Los Alamos County Council, Police Chief Dino Sgambellone, Ofc. David Bradshaw and Ofc. Joseph Ortega seeking damages for assault, battery and false imprisonment under the New Mexico Tort Claims Act has been dismissed and the County has agreed to pay Andrew Abeyta $4,000 in settlement.
Under the terms of the agreement, which was executed in September, Abeyta will pay all his own attorney’s costs and the County will not admit to any fault or wrongdoing.

Aquatic Center Hosts Pumpkin Splash Oct. 21

This Saturday, Oct. 21, the public is invited to join in on the Annual Pumpkin Splash and Halloween Carnival 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walkup Aquatic Center.
This year’s theme pays tribute to Dr. Seuss. To kick off the festivities, the bounce house will be set up outside the pool, and various carnival games with great prizes will entertain the kids. Pumpkins will float in the pool, allowing participants to swim around and find just the right one to take home with them. The pumpkin retrieval itself starts at 11 a.m.
