NNSA Issues Finding Of No Significant Impact To Environment From LANL Transmission Line Upgrade Project

LANL News:

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced its findings today that construction of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Electrical Power Capacity Upgrade Project (DOE/EA-2199) would yield no significant impact to the environment.

The transmission line installation project will cross lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service, Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF).

The EA analyzed the construction and operation of a new 115 kilovolt (kV) power transmission line to upgrade LANL’s existing electrical infrastructure. Read More

Los Alamos Firefighters Hold ‘Push-In Ceremony’

Los Alamos Fire Department Firefighters held a ‘push-in ceremony’ for their new engine Monday afternoon at Station No. 3 in White Rock. A ‘push-in ceremony’ is a tradition where a new fire truck is ceremoniously pushed into the fire station bay by firefighters. This practice, originating with horse-drawn engines needing manual placement, symbolizes the truck entering active service and honors the history of firefighting. Public Invited To Tour Demonstration Garden Aug. 20

From Inclusivity Task Force Accessibility Subgroup:

The public is invited to attend a tour of the Demonstration Garden, 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the corner of Oppenheimer Drive and Central Avenue.

County Shares Los Alamos Golf Course August Update

The Los Alamos County Golf Course front nine has been open for play for a month, and this morning, Aug. 11, staff evaluated the course for any problem areas and the overall status of the course for additional play.

Staff has confirmed that the front nine is holding up well and will be making a slight adjustment to the schedule. However, we feel that it is also still beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days.

Transformer Failure Caused Morning Outage In White Rock

COUNTY News:

A 1950s vintage electrical transformer failed at 3:20 a.m. today, Aug. 8, causing a power outage for the White Rock community.

Stephen Marez, deputy utility manager for the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU), explained that there are two transformers in the White Rock electric substation.

The Unit 2 transformer is the primary one for the community’s daily electric load, while the Unit 1 transformer serves as a backup.

Los Alamos Police Share Back To School Safety Reminders

LAPD News:

With the start of the new school year on the horizon, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is reminding all citizens to stay alert and prioritize safety throughout the community.

Los Alamos Public Schools will be back in session on Monday, Aug. 11, with the exception of Chamisa Elementary School, which will reopen to students on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

As students return to school, drivers are urged to slow down, avoid distractions and be cautious near schools, crosswalks, and bus stops.

All school zone warning lights will be in effect during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. Read More

Local golf professionals are warning businesses to be cautious of a scam involving fake charity golf tournaments.

A woman identifying herself as “Nayda” with Digital Fairways App has been contacting businesses, claiming to be organizing tournaments at courses such as Los Alamos Golf Course, Towa, Black Mesa, Santa Fe Country Club, and others, and seeking donations.

The most recent phone number used is (480) 576-6076, though it may vary.
