Nature Center Public Meetings Jan. 21-22

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County will hold public information meetings in Los Alamos and White Rock in January to update residents on the design of the new Los Alamos Nature Center. 

The meetings will be Jan. 21 at Fuller Lodge in the Pajarito Room and Jan. 22 in White Rock Town Hall. Both meetings will run 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the same material will be presented at each meeting.

The design for the new Nature Center is underway with ground-breaking set to occur in April and estimated completion set for April 2015. The building will be located north of the Aquatic Center at the former skate park at 2600 Read More

County Seeks Public Feedback on ‘Nuisances’ and Property Maintenance Standards

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has established a new Open Forum topic asking for public feedback about Ordinance 02-238 regarding Chapter 18 of the County Code for “Nuisances” and property maintenance standards.

Public comment is open until 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6. The public hearing on the proposed Ordinance will take place 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 at the County Council meeting in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.

Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes has successfully completed the process that awards him the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO.)

The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) met Dec. 3 to officially confer the designation upon Hughes. He is one of only 944 CFOs worldwide.

Streetlights Off For Faralito Viewing Dec, 24

The Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will be turning off the power to various streetlights to enhance the viewing of holiday farolitos.The streetlights will be turned off Tuesday, Dec. 24 and will be restored on Thursday, Dece.26.

The streets that will be affected are:

Barranca Mesa:  Barranca Road, Los Pueblos (including side streets), San Juan, Totavi, Navajo Road

Another Cat Found Roaming in Los Alamos

This big, friendly orange tabby was found roaming in Los Alamos.

The micro-chip has been traced to the owner who adopted this cat from the Santa Fe Shelter, and shelter workers are trying to reach this person.

Downtown Power Outage Affects Business Customers

DPU News:

Power was restored within 20 minutes to most Department of Public Utilities’ customers affected by the downtown electric outage that began just after 1 p.m. Wednesday. 

An underground electric line was hit during construction resulting in an outage along Trinity Drive between Levy Lane at the Century Link Building and DP Road; it also included some businesses on Nectar Street and 15th Street.

Los Alamos County Community and Economic Development Director Anne Laurent presented details of a Construction Services Agreement for the Design-Build of the White Rock Library/Youth Activity Center received from Bradbury Stamm at Tuesday’s Dec. 17 meeting.
 
Council voted 6-0 to accept the agreement in the amount of $4.205 million. Councilor Rick Reiss was absent.
 
The project for the White Rock Library will more than double the square footage of its current facility.
