New Solid Waste and Recycling Fees in Los Alamos County

COUNTY News:
On Aug. 27, Los Alamos County Council passed new rates for the Environmental Services Division. The approved new rates will go into effect Sept. 30.
These new rates will adjust a variety of fees currently charged at the Los Alamos County Eco Station and fees charged for roll-off services. The changes will not impact monthly residential solid waste fees or commercial dumpster fees.

County Repairs Multiple Power Outages Sunday
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities Officials reported that power was fully restored by Monday to the many customers who lost electricity following Sunday’s storm.
High wind, rain and lightning caused multiple outages Sunday evening throughout the Los Alamos town site. DPU electric lineman worked around the clock until Monday morning.
Reported Sunday at 7:10 p.m., crews responded to an outage in the 35th and 38th Street neighborhood and repaired a blown fuse. Power was restored by 7:23 p.m. to the 60 affected customers.

This Saturday the contractor for the Municipal Building project will be performing warranty work on the HVAC roof-top system.
Residents may see a large crane on-site hoisting some large pieces of equipment onto the roof.

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities has identified damages from recent flooding in and around the County that impacts existing infrastructure, projects and operations. There are a number of other damages that have not yet been assessed as well.

Council to Revisit Strategic Plan
In a Work Session Tuesday night, the Los Alamos County Council decided to revisit the Los Alamos County Strategic Plan. Adopted in July 2011, the Plan contains 10 focus areas and 16 goals. Councilors elected to office after the adoption of the plan said they would like to have more input into the stated goals. Several Councilors said that it would be useful to put the progress toward the goals into a more measurable format. Trails status after Friday’s flooding: Open Space Specialist Craig Martin reports that nothing is closed, but there are lots of repairs needed, particularly on the Forest Service trails along West Jemez Road.
By Wednesday evening, volunteers hope to have the hazardous sections of Forest Service trails re-routed. Volunteers will be working on Water Canyon trails starting Wednesday evening and hope to have most of that trail fixed by early next week.
