Eastern Area Sound Wall Public Meeting Wednesday

The County is holding a 90 percent design public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the airport terminal building for Eastern Area Sound Wall. Once the design is complete, the project will be advertised for bids with completion anticipated in November.

Electric Pole Safety Inspections Underway
DPU News:
The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is conducting its scheduled electric pole safety audit with the help of contractor, Osmose, Inc.
“The good condition of each electric pole in the local distribution network is essential to improving reliability and preventing failures,” said Deputy Utilities Manager for Electric Distribution Rafael del La Torre.

Shaaze is a beautiful, long-haired female Maine Coon cross ready for a home where she can cuddle with the family.
She loves cuddling so much that when a volunteer was at the shelter Thursday evening, Shaaze walked from the top of one of the kennels right onto the shelter volunteer’s shoulders and refused to be put down the rest of the time the volunteer was there.

The National Weather Service has extended the FLASH FLOOD WATCH through Saturday evening, Sept. 14.
Remember the following tips in flood risk areas:

Los Alamos Public Schools, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Los Alamos County remain open today.
Assistant Superintendent Gerry Washburn told the Los Alamos Daily Post a few moments ago that the schools coordinate their closures with Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The White Rock Visitors Center designed by Mullen Heller Architecture has won the HardieDesign Contest in the Modern Category.
The facility is a prime example of the benefits of James Hardie products engineered for climate.
In a region known for wildfires and monsoons, Mullen Heller designed the White Rock Visitor Center to stand up to dry temperatures and wet climates while maintaining a modern lodge appeal using a combination of HardiePlank and HardieTrim products.
Council Approves Changes to Personnel Rules & Regs. 100-1200 Series
Los Alamos County Human Resources Manager Denise Cassel briefed Council on proposed revisions and additions to personnel rules and regulations in the 100-1200 Series. Councilor Rick Reiss is the liaison to the Personnel Board, which worked over a long period of time to identify the needed changed. Reiss attended several of the review meetings. He commented that it’s hard to second guess any of the proposed changes because not only were they reviewed by County management but also by employees and union representatives as well.
