National Work Zone Awareness Week: Ensuring Safety For Workers And Motorists

Los Alamos County is pleased to announce the observance of National Work Zone Awareness Week from April 21-25, 2025. This year’s theme is, “Respect the Zone So We All Get Home,” and is a critical reminder to motorists to be cautious and attentive as they approach and navigate work zones.

As warmer weather approaches, work to maintain and repair our roads will increase. The Public Works Department would like to share some important work zone safety tips so we can all do our part to keep road workers safe and so that everyone can get to their destination safely:

Sweet and friendly, Douglas the cat is ready to find his forever home. He’s thriving in the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter and gets along well with the other cats, but deep down, he wants his own person or family.

Anyone looking for a loyal companion is encouraged to visit Douglas at the shelter at 226 East Road. Adoption includes spaying or neutering, FELV/FIV and heartworm tests on cats and dogs, microchips and vaccinations.

The shelter is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday and closed Wednesdays.

Public Input Session For The Artificial Turf Study April 24

The fourth Public Engagement Input Session for the ongoing Artificial Turf Study will take place from 5:30–7:30 p.m., April 24 at Fuller Lodge.

This session provides another opportunity for community members to review proposed scenarios of field layouts at North Mesa and Overlook facilities. The Los Alamos County Council will continue the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Hearings at 6 p.m. today, April 23, in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave.
