Bandelier’s Summer Shuttle Service Begins May 14, 2025

NPS News:

Bandelier National Monument is beginning its free summer shuttle service May 14, 2025 to Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle, provided by Atomic City Transit, boards at the Frey Trail Parking Lot in the park and starting at 10 a.m. runs every 10 minutes.

Unlike previous years, the shuttle is not mandatory unless the parking lots in the canyon are filled up. Also, there will be no shuttle service to the White Rock Visitor Center. Los Alamos Police Dept. Warns Of More Phone Scams

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is warning residents about a recent phone scam in which callers impersonate deputies from the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Department, falsely claiming that individuals must pay money to clear arrest warrants.

Fortunately, two vigilant citizens recently recognized the scam and refused to comply.

LAPD reminds the community that no law enforcement agency or court will ever contact individuals demanding payment to resolve fines or warrants. If you receive such a call, it is fraudulent.

County: C-PACE Meeting For Commercial Property Owners

Commercial property owners and tenants can learn more about the Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) program, 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22.

County DPU Seeks Focus Group Volunteers

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU), in partnership with the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University, is seeking volunteers for two focus groups to discuss the pathway to zero natural gas usage.

The groups will meet noon-1 p.m. over Zoom on April 24, May 1 and May 8.  Participants must be natural gas customers of DPU.

Additional Curbside Brush Collection Suspended April 14-18

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Environmental Services regrets to inform residents that curbside brush collection services will not be available April 14-18. The side-load collection equipment is currently out of service and awaiting the necessary parts for repair.

Curbside brush collection is expected to resume its regular schedule next week, April 21.

Deadline Approaching For Los Alamos Department Of Public Utilities Essay Contest

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is conducting an essay contest for high school students as part of an effort organized by Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS).

A local student may receive sponsorship to attend a summer leadership camp and scholarship program in Idaho called the ICUA Youth Rally, but only if they get their essay submitted no later than May 2.

When it comes to improving the process of starting a business in Los Alamos, County Council agreed it would be beneficial to bring in some fresh blood.

During its regular meeting April 8, council unanimously approved engaging  Cities Work to evaluate the County’s permitting requirements and processes.

Temporary Trail Closure: Eastern Canyon Rim Trailhead

Access to the Canyon Rim Trail from the Eastern trailhead, extending 0.5 miles, will be temporarily closed beginning Tuesday, April 15 for culvert installation.

The work is expected to be completed within one day. During the closure, trail users are encouraged to access the Canyon Rim Trail from the Western trailheads.

The County apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s understanding as this project is completed to enhance the overall trail experience.

 Los Alamos County is accepting applications for eligible candidates for appointment to a vacant seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

This vacancy is a three-year term, expiring 36 months from the date of appointment, and open to registered Republican or Independent candidates.

LAPD Large-Scale Training Exercise Saturday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will conduct a large-scale department interoperability training exercise from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 12 at the Los Alamos Middle School. Officers will also be using the North Mesa Picnic Grounds as a staging area.
