Staff Report:
Friday was a wild day throughout Los Alamos County with flooded buildings, power outages and rockslides.
Lightning and thunder pounded the area. Los Alamos Fire Department reported its dispatch radios were down and switched over to an alternate system.

Municipal Court Closed July 17, 18, 19
COURT News:
The Los Alamos Municipal Court Clerk’s Office will be closed July 17, 18 and 19, for staff to attend training.
Payments due during this period may be mailed to Los Alamos Municipal Court, 2500 Trinity Dr, Ste. C, Los Alamos, NM 87544 or some payments may be paid online at https:////www.citepayusa.com/.

Hundreds Affected By Friday’s Power Outages
DPU News:
Friday’s noon lightning storm caused hundreds of Los Alamos customers around the townsite to temporarily lose power.
North Community, Quemazon, Ponderosa Estates, the ski hill, several homes in both the Fairway and Villa neighborhoods as well as Aspen School all lost power about the same time. Linemen with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities were busy restoring power to the various locations.

SHELTER News:
Cassidy is a young spayed female fawn/white hound mix, about a year old. She is a total sweetie and a quick learner. She is good with people and other dogs. Cassidy loves to go for walks and is leash trained. She also knows “sit.”
All adoptable pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and brought up-to-date on vaccinations. Dogs are checked for heartworm.

Council Seeks Applicants For Probate Judge Vacancy
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Council is seeking applicants to fill the unexpired term of Probate Judge Ellen Hong, who resigned June 24.
Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve as Probate Judge. Applicants are asked to submit a one or two-page letter indicating why they would be interested in serving as Probate Judge. The letter must be received no later than 5 p.m. Monday, July 29.

Council Approves 2 Percent Raise For County Officials
Los Alamos County Council voted 6-0 to approve a 2 percent increase to the salary of County Administrator Harry Burgess, County Attorney Rebecca Ehler and Department of Public Utilities Manager John Arrowsmith. Council Vice Chair Izraelevitz was absent. Fire Restrictions Relaxed Across Los Alamos County
COUNTY News:
Officials in the Los Alamos Fire Department announced this morning that the County will relax fire restrictions from Stage II to Stage I, effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 10.
The County has been under Stage II restrictions since June 25 due to extreme fire danger.
The relaxation of fire restrictions is based upon:
- Local weather improvement, including:
o Recent regular rainfall
o The local seven-day forecast, which reflects continued rain and cloud cover
o Rising humidity values in the weather
- Fuel
