June 20 at 8:24 p.m. / Police arrested Johnnie Sanchez, 35, of Los Alamos in Central Park Square and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

June 22 at 10:54 a.m. / Police stopped James Reagan, 48, of Los Alamos near West Road and Trinity Drive for speeding and charged him with driving on a suspended or revoked license.

COUNTY News:
Today, Los Alamos County received official notification from Smith’s/Kroger that the lease feasibility period has ended and that the terms of the ground lease with the County will be in full effect.
Now, Smith’s/Kroger is set to begin the initial development phase, including construction of the anchor building (Smith’s Marketplace), at least one other tenant of approximately 10,500 square feet, all parking and other site work.

In honor of Independence Day, Los Alamos is offering many free events on July 4 to celebrate our freedoms including a fireworks show, Fun Run and naturalization ceremony to welcome our newest Americans.
Families will have the liberty on whether or not to walk or run at the “Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run” on July 4. The walk/run benefits the YMCA, with entry fees for adults at $25; $10 for youth and $15 for YMCA members. By RUSSELL T PACKI am sorry I was out of town when the meetings were held about the proposed new water wells in White Rock. If those who have taken the Not In My Backyard position toward those wells succeed, everyone in LA county will lose!

Council Extends Proclamation on Fireworks Restrictions
Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes receives a 30-day extension to a fireworks ban proclamation from Councilor Steve Girrens on behalf of the Council at Tuesday’s meeting. The ban relates to members of the public. The County has granted permission to the Kiwanis Club to hold its annual July 4 extravaganza at Overlook Park. Singer-Songwriter Parker Millsap Plays Pond Friday

We had to make a change to this Friday June 28 concert. We’ll still be at Ashley Pond with a great free concert that’ll start at 7 p.m. It’s still LA Monitor Night, but our band is quite different. Playing this Friday is the incredible, Parker Millsap Band with Michael Rose featured on stand-up bass.

CLOVIS – Los Alamos County Clerk Sharon Stover was elected vice president of the New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC) June 20 at the 77th Annual Conference in Curry County.
Stover has served as the NMAC treasurer and board representative for Los Alamos County. Previously, she was a Los Alamos County Councilor and involved with economic development in her community. She was chosen as part of the new leadership by her peer elected officials to help guide the NMAC Board of Directors representing all 33 counties in New Mexico.

Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes commented this morning on public safety and the upcoming fireworks display sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
The County contracts with the Kiwanis to provide the fireworks for the popular, family-friendly annual event held at Overlook Park in White Rock each Independence Day. At this point, the fireworks display is scheduled to go on as planned; however, Hughes stressed that many public safety and fire-wise considerations have been taken into account in the early planning stages.
