Letter to the Editor: On Hyping Roundabouts

Recently, Councilor Kristin Henderson stated (Los Alamos Daily Post Feb. 23) that “And yes, the federal and state highway people are all good with a roundabout. New Mexico just put one in on the bypass.”
There has been no roundabout put on the N.M. 599 bypass. The roundabouts are on a low-traffic, feeder road on either side of the bypass and not on N.M. 599 itself.
And while it is considering the County’s desire to have a roundabout at Central Avenue, NMDOT has long been on-record favoring a signalized intersection there.

Ashley Pond Park ADA Ramp Excavation Begins Today Near Central Avenue and Bathtub Row

Pet of the Week: Remy, a 2-year-old mix has been at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter for six months and remains available for adoption.
Because she is very shy at first meetings, Remy gets overlooked when people come to pick out a dog to take home. When a stranger walks in, Remy runs into her dog house for safety.
But she craves love, and hopes someone will take just a little time to get to know her to discover what a sweet and loving companion she will be.

This evening in Council Chambers, Los Alamos County Public Information Officer Julie Habiger briefed Council on the results of the naming committee for the new municipal building. Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities Deputy Utilities Manager Bob Westervelt is briefing the Los Alamos County Council on the reasons behind the DPU’s request for an 8 percent sewer rate increase.
The purpose for the increase is to upgrade the aging sewer system.
If approved by Council this evening, Westervelt said it would become effective tomorrow, adding that the DPU would ensure customers complete their current billing cycle at the current rate before incurring the increase.

County’s Glass Drop-Off Recycling Program Expanding

A new yellow glass drop-off recycling dumpster has been placed at the Los Alamos Cooperative Market to increase the convenience for residents to participate in the program.
The program now includes four drop off locations; Los Alamos Co-op, Sullivan Field, Los Alamos County Eco Station and Overlook Park Convenience Center. Residents can recycle glass bottles and jars of all colors at any of these locations.
