The County’s Public Information Officer has posted this new question on the County’s “Open Forum” at www.losalamosnm.us:
“The County Council currently holds two business meetings per month on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. To enable broader public participation, they are considering moving one of their Tuesday meetings to a Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not?”

Department of Public Utilities Manager John Arrowsmith spoke to the Los Alamos Kiwanis Club at its lunch meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Arrowsmith presented an overview of the NEDO PV Smart Grid project. Everyone wants renewable power, but the challenge is that solar is available 24 percent of the time, wind 30-40 percent of the time and hydro 30 percent of the time, he said.
It is still necessary to have traditional power sources for the times when the renewable power can’t be generated, Arrowsmith said. Read More

Community Broadband Meeting Wrap Up

Some 30 citizens attended a meeting Feb. 20 regarding recommended design of the Community Broadband Network by Los Alamos County.
An update on this last-mile, open-access, fiber optic network project as well as the finance mechanisms proposed by the business plan was discussed.

Public Briefed on N.M. 502–Trinity Drive Project
The New Mexico Department of Transportation held a public open house Wednesday to discuss proposed alternative revisions for the N.M. 502–Trinity Drive project and to receive comments from the public as part of a required environmental review of the project.

DPU Transformer Inspection Begins This Week
Assessment of Electric Distribution System
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities recently awarded a contract to JACO, Inc. to inspect transformers as part of the County’s overhead electric system assessment.
Beginning in the North Community as early as Tuesday, Feb. 19, an inspection crew will focus its effort in the Los Alamos town site over the next couple of months.
DPU Officials request customer cooperation in providing the inspection crew access to electric transformers that may be located in backyards or behind closed gates.
