Starting Monday, traffic will be switched to one lane of traffic on each side of the road. Work will continue in the middle median area. Speed limit within the construction area is 30 mph. Expect modifications to the work zone as work progresses. Drive defensively and watch for construction vehicles. The contractor plans to work on Saturday and Sunday, June 30-31.

Muni Complex Running Months Ahead of Schedule
The 45,000 square foot Municipal Complex project is ahead of schedule for substantial completion by January 2013 instead of the original projected date of October 2013. However, at this stage of construction, County officials say that many factors could change that date again and it is most likely that the building will be finished and ready for occupancy in the fall of 2013. Contractor Inserts Smart Pigs on Local Pipeline

New Mexico Gas contractors are in the process of inserting a Smart Pig on the pipeline in Los Alamos County that runs from Quemazon down to the anniversary water tank at the entrance of town.
Contractor Eddie Saez said work on the pipeline is running two days ahead of schedule and should be completed by mid August.

Glass Drop-off Recycling Coming to Los Alamos
LOS ALAMOS COUNTY News:
At the June evening meeting of the Environmental Sustainability Board, staff discussed the addition of a glass drop-off recycling program in the near future.
This program will allow residents to drop-off glass bottles and jars at Sullivan Field, Overlook Convenience Center or the Eco Station to be recycled.
Note: GLASS CANNOT BE PLACED IN BLUE RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING ROLL CARTS.

Contractor’s High Pressure Hose Breaches Power Line

Power was interrupted to North Mesa beginning at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday when a contractor digging with a high pressure hose and vacuum exposed and breached one wire of three phase direct bury electric lines on the east end of North Mesa, according to officials at the Department of Public Utilities (DPU.)

North Mesa Power Outage – UPDATE
DPU News:
A power outage on North Mesa began at 11:18 a.m. today due to contractor digging activities, which contacted with an underground utility line.
About 250 or one third of customers on North Mesa’s eastern end were affected.
Department of Public Utilities electric linemen repaired the line and by 4:30 p.m. had restored power to the area. Read More
Work Continues on Pajarito Canyon/Nail Trail Loop

Volunteers are needed for a half-day work session to continue post-Las Conchas fire stabilization of the Pajarito Canyon/Nail Trail loop.
The work needs to be completed before the monsoon season begins or sections of the trail will wash away.
- When: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday June 23
- Where: Pajarito Canyon Trailhead
- Plan: Hike in about one mile and work the eroded side slope section before the entire trail washes away

As a recent Los Alamos resident returning to New Mexico after 17 years, the lab was a major business client of mine during the 1980s and 1990s.
Compared with those days, Los Alamos has come a long way.
Yet, from attending the latest capital improvement projects meeting I must confess: the end result was a bit of a disappointment.

Russ Gordon, father of the Concert Series, has been providing great free concerts in Los Alamos for 22 years.
