Canyon Road between East Road (N.M. 502) and the Myrtle Green continues to be closed to through traffic.Residential access to this area will be maintained; however, residents who park on Canyon Road are asked to park off-street or on a nearby side street. Residents can expect flagging operations on Canyon Road during the day time, and two-way traffic at night. Minor delays may be experienced. Pedestrians must use the provided pedestrian detours. All through traffic must seek alternate routes.

Manhattan Project Historical Park Site Bill Moves Through Congress
Chairman Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) today introduced legislation that would designate Manhattan Project sites around the country as a National Historic Park.
Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Tom Udall (D-NM) and Patty Murray (D-WA) are cosponsors of S. 3300.
In the House of Representatives, Natural Resources Chairman Doc Hastings (R-WA) said today that he will introduce a similar bill when the House returns to session next week.

LA Skateboard Competition Set for June 23
The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the LA Skateboard Competition at 11 a.m., Saturday June 23 at the Los Alamos Skate Park.
The competition consists of Two 90-Second Runs in the Park and an Ollie Competition.
Following the events will be a demonstration from the BZ Skate Team from Beyond Waves in Albuquerque.
Fees are $5 pre-registration and $8 on-site registration the day of the competition.

Brief Power Outage in White Rock Identified
DPU News:
Half of White Rock customers serviced by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities lost electricity at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The DPU explained that a contractor replacing utility poles in the area inadvertently caused the outage, which was restored 15 minutes later.
A jumper burned while the primary riser was being attached to the new pole structure.
Work procedures require that overhead protective devices be placed on non-reclosing mode when work is being conducted on live electric lines.
This is to avoid further damage to the electric system and for worker safety.

Call for Exhibitors for White Rock’s Art & Artisans Market
The Los Alamos Creative District is now accepting applications for exhibitors/ vendors from throughout the area to display and sell their work at the White Rock Art and Artisans Market.
The market will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday from June 17 until Oct. 21 and is free to the public.
The location will be an outdoor space at the Hive at 134, N.M. 4 in White Rock where about 40 tents and tables can be accommodated.
The Hive is close by the parking and shuttle stop for the Bandelier National Monument shuttle which begins in June – all visitors going to Bandelier will be required to use this shuttle. Read More

Council Votes For No Change to Sheriff’s Office
After listening to comments and recommendations from members of the Charter Review Committee, which studied the issue at length, Councilors voted 5-2 to retain present language in the Charter stating that the duties of the Los Alamos Sheriff do not include law enforcement.
