DPU Explains Brief Power Outages
DPU News:
A burned jumper at West Diamond Drive and Trinity Drive caused a power outage at 4:15 p.m. Monday for about 100 customers in the Western area, according to officials at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities.
Elsewhere on the circuit, recloser activity caused momentary power blinks, which were reported from customers at the Ski Hill, Mesa Public Library and other sites.
Power was restored at 5 p.m. to those areas
At 4 a.m. today, an underground line fault caused a power outage on Cheryl and Connie streets in White Rock, affecting about 40 people.

County Council to Review EEOC Ruling in Closed Session
COUNTY News:
County Council Chair Sharon Stover said that Council will review in closed session June 12, last week’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruling regarding former Assistant County Administrator Diana Stepan’s charges against Los Alamos County.
The EEOC found the County guilty of sex discrimination as well as retaliation against Stepan.
Stepan filed a grievance against former County Administrator Tony Mortillaro. She was fired Jan. 3, 2011.

Lightning Blamed for Local Power Outage Today
Early reports indicate a burnt jumper on Trinity Drive and Diamond Drive due to lightning is believed to be the cause of a partial power outage today.
Portions of Western Area, Ski Hill and radio towers were partially without power for about 30 minutes late this afternoon. Power surged on and off multiple times South of Ashley Pond near Downtown Los Alamos.
Department of Public Utilities electric linemen completed repair work and report that power was fully restored 15 minutes ago.

East Park Closed for Paving Through June 20
LOS ALAMOS COUNTY News:
County Pavement crews will begin paving the East Park parking lot Monday, June 4.
Paving activities will require the park to be closed from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily for approximately two weeks.
Activity at the site on Monday will be limited to equipment staging as crews prepare for paving. Paving operations are scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 5, weather permitting, and should conclude by Wednesday, June 20.
The East Park pavilion cannot be reserved for events on weekdays, but will be available for use on the weekends.

Sidewalk Obstruction Removal Program

Los Alamos County would like to solicit the cooperation of property owners to voluntarily remove vegetation along sidewalks. Invasive weeds will be a problem this summer, so the county asks everyone to pull, spray, or otherwise control weeds and grass on their property and adjacent to sidewalks.

UPDATED FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Los Alamos County Fire and Smoking Restrictions
Effective June 1, 2012
Building, maintaining or using an open fire is prohibited on all Los Alamos County lands except within developed campsites (concrete pad with metal fire ring), metal grills using charcoal or propane are acceptable on North Mesa campgrounds, at Overlook Park and at any park within Los Alamos County.
Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3-feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. Read More
