Gary Goddard was ready for a change. After 14 years working as a controls engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory, he said it was time to do something different, which motivated him to apply to be the Los Alamos Airport Manager.
Goddard got the job in September. He said he is pleased with his decision.

Stepping outside with a dog can lead to anything: leashes entangling furry legs, face-offs with geese, barking spats with other canines and more. DWI Planning Council To Host Winter Festival Feb. 27

The Los Alamos DWI Planning Council is hosting a Winter Festival 4:30-8:30 p.m., Feb. 27, at SALA Event Center. The event is an 18+ substance-free event with music, food trucks, movies, games and mocktails. Entry and activities are free, and the food and mocktails will be available for purchase by attending vendors.

Los Alamos Police Department Closes Westbound Lane On Omega Bridge Due To Two-Vehicle Crash
At about 11:50 a.m. today, Jan. 29, 2025, Los Alamos police responded to a crash on Omega Bridge.
Omega Bridge’s southbound lane will be closed for an undetermined amount of time due to this two-vehicle non-injury traffic crash.
Investigation and fluid clean-up are in progress. All southbound traffic is being diverted onto West Road.

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will conduct DWI Operations over the next few months.
Citizens can expect to see DWI roadblocks and saturation patrols to combat crimes related to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, underage drinking, and open container violations.

Overall, crime reported to police in all categories rose 9%, with Crimes Against Persons increasing from 43 to 50, Crimes Against Property increasing from 157 to 170, and Crimes Against Society increasing from 21 to 24.

The Los Alamos Customer Care Center received many calls about frozen pipes this morning. Cold weather coupled with little-to-no snow on the ground is causing more frozen pipes than usual in meter cans and in homes.
Here are some tips from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) to help you avoid frozen pipes during frigid weather.

Mesa Public Library Renovation Project Begins Today

Construction begins Jan. 21 at Mesa Public Library to restore and enhance the exterior of the building. One of the planned projects is to remove and replace the existing siding that has faded over time. Three sections are being replaced; the largest section can be seen near the front entrance facing south. The second project being undertaken at this time is to fill the cracks in the veneer of the building. The cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the building but need to be addressed to prevent further damage to the exterior of the building.
