Op-Ed: About Those Smith’s Marketplace Complaints…
I found this letter interesting for a variety of reasons. I have a few perspectives on why LA County decided to allow the only Smith’s Marketplace in New Mexico to operate in Los Alamos. It should be noted that I am not a Smith’s employee, and my comments do not represent the beliefs of the organization.

County Board Of Public Utilities Scheduled To Meet Feb. 19
The Los Alamos County Board of Public Utilities is scheduled to hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.

Library Seeks Public Input On Outdoor Classroom Project
Los Alamos Public Library is seeking public input on the design and cost estimates phase of the Outdoor Classroom Project, to be located between Mesa Public Library and the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
The poll opened Friday, Feb. 14, and can be taken online or in person at either library. This project will provide a space for increased and innovative programming from the Library and others in the community.

Senior Centers To Be Closed Feb. 17 For Presidents Day

County Offices To Close Feb. 17 For Presidents Day
In observance of Presidents Day, some Los Alamos County government offices and services will close or have modified hours Monday, Feb. 17.
The County’s administrative offices, Atomic City Transit fixed bus routes, and the Environmental Services division will be closed Monday.
The following facilities will have modified hours Monday, Feb. 17:
- White Rock and Mesa libraries – Open 1-5 p.m.
- Aquatic Center – The entire facility will be open from 1-4 p.m.

County Seeks Applicant For Inclusivity Task Force Vacancy

The Los Alamos County Council is seeking letters of interest from County residents to fill a vacancy on the seven-member Los Alamos Inclusivity Task Force. Letters must be submitted by 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.

Council Extends Low-Income Property Tax Rebate Program

COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Council adopted an ordinance last month, to extend the Low-Income Taxpayer Property Tax Rebate Program for the next four taxable years (2025–2028). Authorized under Section 7-2-14.3 of the New Mexico Statutes, the program provides eligible low-income property owners in participating communities with a rebate on their New Mexico Personal Income Tax, offsetting a percentage of their property tax payment, not to exceed $350.
