In the Navy, advancement in rank depends on the number of vacancies for those ranks, meeting eligibility requirements, passing an advancement exam and a recommendation for advancement by the Commanding Officer or Officer in Charge.

NJROTC works in a similar way as cadets are tested on basic military knowledge by taking advancement exams.

STEM Santa Fe Hosts 2022 Conference Saturday Nov. 5

STEM Santa Fe (SSF) invites the community to witness its mission in action Nov. 5. About 150 girls and non-binary students, grades 5 though 8, from communities across Northern New Mexico, will spend the day laughing and learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

It is an annual conference designed to give the impressionable young ladies a better appreciation of STEM and to demonstrate how they can use STEM to question, explore, challenge and change their world.

LAHS Football Hosts 2022 First Round State Tournament!

The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Football team will host the first round of the NMAA State Football Tournament Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sullivan Field.

This is the first time since 2008 that the Hilltoppers have hosted a first-round game. Game time is 1 p.m. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, military and seniors (age 65 and older).

Access To Civil Legal Resources Improved Through Judicial Partnership With New Mexico State Library

SANTA FE — Libraries are helping to connect New Mexicans with resources on civil legal matters through a partnership between the State Library and the Commission on Access to Justice.

The State Library’s website offers information about civil legal topics and programs that provide legal services to low-and-moderate income people without an attorney.

Notices are sent to libraries across New Mexico about online community legal webinars, such as one in July to help people seeking wildfire assistance and another in September on services for individuals with disabilities.

Earlier today, Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School administration learned that inappropriate images were sent to students’ iPhones through the AirDrop feature on the phones.

School administrators promptly investigated the matter and were able to identify the source. Appropriate action was taken in regard to the incident.

SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) registration opens Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the Spring 2023 semester.

Spring classes begin Jan. 17 and are available in-person, online or in the HyFlex mode. HyFlex classes can be attended either in person or online to accommodate students’ schedules. Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Jose Delfin addressed the Oct. 27 School Board Meeting about an incident that took place Oct. 5 following a football game between the Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) and Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS).
