DOE’s Office Of Science Graduate Student Research Program Selects 78 Outstanding U.S. Graduate Students To Perform Research At National Laboratories
WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Science has selected 78 graduate students representing 26 states for the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program’s 2020 Solicitation 2 cycle.
Seven graduate students will be coming to Los Alamos:
- Luis Bichon – Vanderbilt University, NP – Heavy Ion Nuclear Physics
- Michael Woodward – University of Arizona, ASCR – Applied Mathematics
- Nathan Mark Myers – University of Maryland Baltimore County, BES – Quantum Information Science for Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The orchestras from Los Alamos High School (LAHS) and Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) were treated recently to a virtual masterclass as well as a virtual performance by the San Francisco string quartet Del Sol.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M) has announced that he has invited 16-year-old Heleen Archuleta, a constituent from Counselor, as his virtual guest for President Biden’s first joint address to Congress.
Archuleta is a sophomore at Cuba High School and a member of the Navajo Nation who has been distance learning since April of last year.

Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is offering a new “Summer Bridge 2021” program — a FREE 5-week intensive learning experience designed to help students get ready for college.
The program provides students with pre-college classes in Math and English, with a focus on gaining skills to enter college-level courses in the Fall.

This year science fairs are online rather than in-person posters and presentations. The 2021 Final New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair was Saturday, April 17 with results announced April 20.
Students from schools across New Mexico competed to perform research and present their results to judging panels.
