Members of the Los Alamos Robotics Team 4153, known as Project Y, Zach Koehn, left, and Carter Noeninckyx operate the team’s ball tossing robot during Robotics Night Friday at the Bradbury Science Museum. SANTA FE The Forest Stewards Guild’s Forest Stewards Youth Corps (FSYC) Fall Fire and Fuels program kicked-off the 2019 field season with a crew member training.
 
Sixteen FSYC crew members ages, 18 to 25, attended the three-day training Aug. 19-23, at Cottonwood Gulch Foundation’s basecamp in Thoreau, N.M. The two crews are now spend the following 11-weeks working on U.S Forest Service (USFS) lands and learning from USFS specialists.

Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA), will be recognized at the Los Alamos County Council meeting Aug. 27 with a proclamation for youth and community development, as the new school year begins.
 
The proclamation helps to highlight the work C’YA does based on the Search-Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets* and building community.
 
C’YA celebrated its 5th birthday in June, but have worked to keep the assets top of mind for 11 years. When funding for the program was discontinued, C’YA was created as a non-profit, to continue the mission.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation has announced that its popular fundraiser, A Taste of Knowledge, has sold out for the third year in a row.
 
The LAPS Foundation partners with Pig + Fig Café to put on the wine and food pairing event, which raises money for all Los Alamos Public Schools. It’s not too late to participate, however. Santa Fe Community College and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will close in observance of Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2.
 
All campus facilities at both locations will be closed.
