As millions of students across the United States head back to school, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released new data confirming the close connection between student health and academic performance.

A former Los Alamos High School student is attending graduate school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall on a U.S. Department of Energy fellowship.

Peter Ahrens was one of less than 5 percent of applicants to receive the DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF). Ahrens, a 2012 Los Alamos graduate, is studying toward a doctoral degree in Computer Science.

Los Alamos High School Gridiron and NJROTC Booster Clubs are selling Homecoming Mums this year. The mums are a longstanding tradition in Southern and Eastern New Mexico and come in two forms, a corsage to pin on or a garter to be worn on the arm or leg.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers and the Los Alamos Middle School Hawktalkers speech and debate teams will be hosting the “Peak Debate Tournament” Saturday, Sept. 23, at Los Alamos High School.
 
The Peak Tournament marks the first debate tournament of the 2017-2018 season and will be attended by over 100 students from across New Mexico. Española – Northern New Mexico College’s High School Equivalency Program (HEP) has been ranked the best in the nation for 2016, according to a newly released report by the Department of Education.

Northern’s HEP achieved a 96 percent graduation rate, the highest among the 43 High School Equivalency Programs operating nation-wide. The national average for graduation from HEP is 68 percent.
