Chartwells food service will offer Frito pies, pizza by the slice, chips and beverages.

According to an École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) study, butterflies living in urban areas face the threat of consanguinity and potential extinction. The research drew on the fields of genetics and urban development to quantify the trend across an entire city.

Most Teen Contact Lens Wearers Report Risky Habits

More than 6 in 7 adolescents (85 percent) who wear contact lenses report at least one habit that increases the chance of an eye infection, according to a report published today in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).

Eye infections can lead to serious problems, including blindness. All contact lens wearers can help prevent serious eye infections by correctly wearing and caring for their contact lenses.

These are the first CDC data on the wear and care habits of the estimated 3 million U.S. adolescents ages 12 to 17 years who use contact lenses. CDC Read More

LANL Foundation Announces Nontraditional Student Scholarship Recipients

LANL FOUNDATION News:

ESPAÑOLA — The LANL Foundation has awarded Regional College/Returning Student scholarships to 16 Northern New Mexico students.

These $1,000 awards from the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund help local, nontraditional students return to formal education to expand job opportunities or pursue new careers with a certification or two-year degree from an accredited college or university in Northern New Mexico.

VFC: New Mexico Makes Second Largest Higher Education Spending Cuts Since Recession

ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico’s state funding for higher education is 33 percent less now than it was before the recession, when looking at inflation-adjusted state spending per student.
 
Looking at the dollar investment, the state is spending $4,509 less in 2017 than it did in 2008 on a per student, inflation-adjusted basis. Only Louisiana has made deeper cuts over that time period.

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) just released the grades for all of the schools in the State. Gov. Susana Martinez advocated for a simple grading system, similar to the one used in Florida, to improve communication with parents and other community members as to how well your local school is doing with a focus on student proficiency in reading and math. Northern Receives $433,000 National Science Foundation Grant To Develop Cybersecurity Program

The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) has been awarded $433,689 by the National Science Foundation to develop a cybersecurity concentration in its ABET-accredited Bachelor in Information Engineering Technology (IET).
