SFCC Partners With Seattle Film Institute On Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree

SANTA FE  Santa Fe Community College announces it is partnering with the Seattle Film Institute to offer an accelerated Bachelor of Arts in Film degree through the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, 1950 Siringo Road.
 
Students can choose concentrations in Filmmaking, Acting for Film, Motion Graphics & Visual FX, or Sound Design and Recording Arts. The collaboration will help meet the demands of the state’s growing film industry by helping students obtain a bachelor’s degree in three years.

The Rio Arriba Extension Service in cooperation with NM Dept. of Health, Diabetes Prevention and Control Program and New Mexico State University Coop. Extension Service, will offer a Kitchen Creations Diabetes cooking school for people with Type II diabetes. Classes will be limited to 15 participants and participants must be willing to commit to all four classes.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 24, Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s Jemez Mountain Herbarium Curator Chick Keller will lead the first monthly Wildflower Walk of the season. These outings will be easy walks to identify some of the wildflower beauties found in and around Los Alamos.

The White Rock Branch Library hosts a new program beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, called “Paws for Reading,” where kids can practice their reading out loud with a dog as the audience.  

Super-cute dog Briggs and his handler De Ann Painter are registered with Therapy Dogs International (TDI), which explains on its website: “The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.”

The new Chamisa School K-Kids Club is collecting books to create a 1,000 book school library for the Bwaila LEA School in Zomba City, Malawi, Africa. This is being done in cooperation with the African Library Project. (Learn more at www.africanlibraryproject.org ).
