The Center for Excellence in Education congratulates Los Alamos High School’s Wilbur Wang for being a semi-finalist in the USA Biology Olympiad Open Exam. This is Wang’s second year reaching the rank of semifinalist.
Approximately 10,000 high school students took the exam, and Wang’s score puts him in the top 10 percent of that group.
The next step is for him to take the second round of this challenging test. The top 20 finalists will be invited to a residential training program where they learn advanced biological concepts and lab skills at the USABO National Finals. Read More

LAHS Senior Eric Burnside Achieves Eagle Scout Rank
Eric Burnside, a senior at Los Alamos High School and member of Troop 222, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America. This accomplishment represents several years of hard work, fun, adventure and community service. During the process of satisfying the requirements for the Eagle rank, Burnside led a group of volunteers in building a trail near the Pajarito Environmental Education Center. Los Alamos Youth Leadership (LAYL) teens spent Saturday with elementary students at Los Alamos High School.
Student leaders took turns leading the group in activities, including making paper airplanes, relay races, charades and planting sunflowers. Los Alamos police and firefighters came out during the lunch hour to meet the kids. The kids enjoyed climbing in and out of LAPD and LAFD vehicles. Read More
