Applications are now being accepted for Northern New Mexico Tribal Business Scholarships.
These awards support the growing need for accountants, financial analysts, and business information system professionals within Pueblo/Tribal communities.
Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to two qualified applicants pursuing undergraduate degrees in business-related fields from an accredited post-secondary educational institution. The speaker is Jessica Clayton, who will be discussing the science and beauty of the aurora borealis. Nature performs beautiful light shows that dance across the sky. GED Test Fees Lowered In New Mexico

SANTA FE – Beginning July 1, New Mexico adult learners have seen a one-third drop in fees to take the GED test.
The exam will now cost $20 per test subject, or $80 for all four test subjects. Students will continue to have the flexibility to pay for one test at a time, and they’ll continue to receive two free retakes.

Changes are afoot at UNM-Los Alamos, and they’re all for the convenience of the students. As of Monday, July 6, UNM-LA Student Services and Business Services will trade office locations: Student Services was previously located in the lower level of Building 2 and will now be in Building 1. School Board Holds Special Meeting Noon Today

The Los Alamos School Board will hold a Special Board Meeting at noon today in the School Administration Board Room to discuss the temporary continuation of the School District’s agreement with the Family YMCA.

UNM-LA Community Education is offering a one-day certification course on CPR and basic first aid called EMS 193 AED/CPR/First Aid Training, taught by Joe Candelaria, 9:30-4 p.m. Saturday, July 11 in room 612 at UNM-LA.
Candelaria is director of the UNM-LA Fire Science Program and a Los Alamos Fire Department certified instructor. The class fee is $95 and may be taken for one hour of credit.

LAPS CFO: 90 Percent Of Audit Findings Corrected
LAPS CFO Lisa Montoya updated the Los Alamos School Board Thursday evening on efforts to correct finding listed in a 2014 Audit Report related to the functioning of the LAPS Financial Department. The community is invited to a star party at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.
First, visitors will start the evening off in the planetarium to get oriented. Next, everyone will head outside to observe the night sky through telescopes. The summer sky shows off the Milky Way, which is the galaxy seen edge-on from its center way out into its spiral arms.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation (LAPSF) hosted its first “A Taste of Knowledge” fundraising event Saturday, June 20 at the Golf Course Community Building.
The grassy area with mature trees shaded guests as they mingled and tasted a variety of wines from around the world and a creative mix of microbrew beers from northern and central New Mexico.
