New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during January 2024.
NMSP is bringing awareness to these events to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.
These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

Community interest and participation in various sustainable programs offered through the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is strong, according to DPU Conservation Specialist Abbey Hayward.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced that the Biden-Harris Administration has awarded a $59,800,000 grant in San Juan County, New Mexico from the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program (Rural) for the US 64 Corridor Improvements (ITHMAS) project.
This is one of 18 projects receiving a total of $645.3 million to help communities around the United States complete transportation projects that will increase mobility, improve safety, and generate regional economic growth in rural areas.

Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced Tuesday that Michael David Fox was sentenced to 1 year and 1 day in prison and ordered to pay a $4,000 fine. ALBUQUERQUE — David L. Norvell died Dec. 21, 2023, at age 88, after a lengthy illness. He passed away at his home in Albuquerque, embraced by his family and loved ones.
Norvell served as the Attorney General of New Mexico from 1971-1974. Prior to that, he served as Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives, the youngest person ever to hold that position.

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) will mail out all IRS 1099-G forms by Jan. 31, 2024, to individuals who received Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits from the agency during calendar year 2023.

The New Mexico Consortium is hosting Cosmic Frontiers: Stephen Hawking & The Universe, a two-day event April 27-28, 2024, centered around scientist Stephen Hawking. The event, the first in a planned yearly “Cosmic Frontiers” series, includes a screening of the 1991 film on Hawking, “A Brief History of Time” which won the prestigious Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize (1992).
