Letter To The Editor: The Business Of Being Unfriendly

By BRADY BURKE
Republican Candidate
Los Alamos County Council

On Oct. 16, 2018, I attended the County Council working session in White Rock.

Doug Hintze, Manager of DOE’s Environmental Management Field Office (DOE EM-LA) and Frazer Lockhart of N3B gave an informative presentation about the clean-up of legacy wastes on Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) land.

Last year, DOE EM-LA awarded the cleanup contract to N3B. While facing the challenges of successfully starting up a new company, N3B has also shown their commitment to Los Alamos County and the surrounding community.

Chandler: Let’s Work Together

By CHRIS CHANDLER
Democratic Candidate
House Dist. 43

It’s amazing what you learn about your neighbors after knocking on thousands of doors throughout Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Sandoval, and Rio Arriba. You find that most families are more affected by local leaders’ decisions than what is happening nationally and are looking for solutions right here in New Mexico to end the vicious cycle of living paycheck to paycheck.

Our state has continued to have among the highest unemployment rates and has participated little in the national recovery from the 2008 recession. Year after year, we provide Read More

Luchini: Sheriff Office A Position Of Trust

By CHRIS LUCHINI
Libertarian Candidate For Sheriff

The Sheriff’s office in Los Alamos is an Administrative office. It is a position of trust on behalf of important administrative functions that require timely and competent processing.

One mandate of the office is to maintain the Sex Offender Registry, interacting with these offenders in a professional manner.  Another requires interacting with people who are being served paperwork related to lawsuits, divorce and child custody conflicts. Tuesday is the chance for voters to say who we are confident is worthy of this trust.

Letter To The Editor: How Could This Be … Once Proud Democrat Party Turns Things Upside Down

By VERNON KERR
Los Alamos

How could this be? The once proud Democrat Party has turned things upside down. Once upon a time virtue was prized and the party believed in and prized individual thought, individual success, and individual rights.

Now the rules are different, one is guilty until proven innocent as shown in the hearing for Justice Kavanaugh and it is a crime to be a successful businessman when one makes a profit as Steve Pearce has done. Steve has been accused of holding hearings with oil and gas interests and at the same time having some business interests. What possible link is there that Read More

By Linda and Paul Daly
Los Alamos

We hope our community will join us in re-electing Judge Alan Kirk as our Municipal Court Judge for a sixth term. He’s served our community extremely well over the past 60 years, first as Police Chief and then, for 20 plus years, as our judge.

Kirk was one of the founders of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and has served as its chair for over 16 years. Our JJAB is a benchmark and a model program for other communities. The Los Alamos JJAB has a particular emphasis on prevention programs for youth, as well as intervention.

Kirk is known for saying, “Take the programs to Read More

Izraelevitz: Proud Of Service Among The Best People

By DAVID IZRAELEVITZ

What makes for good government? Is it being responsive to local needs and expectations? Is it being fiscally responsible and a good steward of tax dollars? Or strategic planning that moves a community forward? Yes, all these things, but as the campaign season ends and my continued service is in the hands of you, the voters of Los Alamos, I want to talk about the most important component of government, and one that I have been most proud to serve with. We have some of the best people working for the County.

Letter To The Editor: Vote Yes On Amendment Two

By GEORGE BEST
Common Cause New Mexico Board Member
Los Alamos

New Mexico is one of only six states without an ethics commission to hold state officials accountable for any wrongdoing and process complaints from ordinary citizens.

Over the past decade there have been many scandals involving state senators, treasurers and public regulation commissioners. The reputation of our state has suffered and, combined with developments at the national level, an attitude of distrust of government has taken hold.

But that can change!

In November, as voters, we have a chance

Robinson: Thank You For Being Engage In The Issues

By JAMES ROBINSON
Democratic Candidate
Los Alamos County Council

It is hard to believe that we are down to the last week of this election cycle, and I want to thank everyone for their patience during this long campaign.

Elections seem to come earlier and earlier, but the people of Los Alamos have been fantastic in inviting me, and my fellow candidates to speak to as many different groups as we possibly could.

For me, it seems like yesterday that me and my fellow candidates were all crammed in the municipal building after declaring our candidacies, patiently waiting for our ballot position in the primary. Read More

“Everyone needs access to healthcare coverage,” said William Townley, an attorney with the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty. “But HSD’s proposed cuts to Medicaid would force many New Mexican families to go into debt or simply drop coverage. Letter To The Editor: Christine Chandler Will Follow High Standards Set By Jeannette Wallace And Stephanie Garcia Richard

By ANTONIO MAGGIORE
Los Alamos County Councilor

One of the hardest things about public service as an elected official can be to place the needs of the many over what you as an individual may selfishly want for yourself. Endorsing Christine Chandler is, if I’m being honest, for me one of those decisions.

I want to be clear about this, I have no doubts about Christine Chandler being overwhelmingly the best candidate to represent not only the interests of Los Alamos but all of District 43 as a whole. Why do I know this? I have campaigned against Christine, to refresh your memory I lost the primary to her Read More
