LWVNM: Observations On The Special Session
By The League Of Women Voters New Mexico:
During the last regular session of the Legislature, the League of Women Voters wrote a letter to the Speaker of the House expressing our appreciation for the open and transparent way that he conducted the business of the House. Agendas went up with as much notice as possible and most committee meetings were scheduled with plenty of notice and were usually held at the time posted. This made it much easier for citizens to participate in the legislative process.
Given our past praise for the Speaker, you can appreciate our dismay at the way the business of the Read More
Nobile: Why Am I Running For Probate Judge?
By Anne NobileLast winter I became aware there would be an opportunity to continue being of service to Los Alamos County in a capacity I would enjoy. With the encouragement of longtime friends and fellow volunteers, I soon applied.
I was appointed by the County Council June 21 for a term lasting until Dec. 31.
My letter of interest reviewed my experience as a paralegal, applying government regulations, such as OSHA and ANSI, in my job at the Lab and volunteering as a Planning & Zoning Commissioner for six years. I described additional volunteer work such as 13 years Read More
Sheehey: What I Have To Offer
By PETE SHEEHEYWhat do I have to offer the citizens of Los Alamos, if re-elected to County Council? I have learned a lot in my first term on Council, and worked for the things residents told me they wanted when I knocked on their doors four years ago: to go ahead with the most important investments for our future, but don’t spend too much, and make sure we get good value for taxpayers’ dollars. We went ahead with projects like the Teen Center, the Nature Center, and the new White Rock Library, Senior and Youth Centers, and we have still maintained Read More

Letter To The Editor: Sharon Stover Is Always Available For Her Community
By LAURA and RANDY ERICKSONWe urge you to support Sharon Stover for House District 43 State Representative. We have worked with Sharon on the United Church’s Mexico Mission for years, and through that experience, we saw her dedication and leadership in action.
The Mexico Mission mobilizes volunteers from Los Alamos to build homes in a remote area in Mexico. There is no electricity in this area, and all the construction must be done manually. Over 140 homes have been completed in the past 30 years.
Sharon has participated in this effort many times. She has always been willing to help with Read More
Letter To The Editor: Los Alamos Needs Steven Girrens On Council
By RICK REISS
Los Alamos County Council Chair
Exciting times are coming for Los Alamos. Between changes in the management of the laboratory and implementation of the new Legacy Remediation campaigns, we find ourselves working hard at the state legislature and with the federal legislators and bureaucrats. A combination of skills is necessary to coordinate with state and federal legislators. I find the efforts in Washington to be important, difficult and demanding.
Councilor Steven Girrens has demonstrated keen awareness of issues and data while representing Los Alamos in Washington. Read More

BLM News:Letter To The Editor: America Desperately Needs To Remove Establishment Politicians
By SHELLI MORGANChicoine: We Need A DA Who Will Enforce The Law
By YVONNE CHICOINEI am seeking election as your District Attorney because I believe the people of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe Counties deserve a District Attorney who is committed to restoring respect for the rule of law.
We need change. We need a District Attorney who makes clear that criminal conduct is unacceptable, and who is willing and unafraid to hold lawbreakers accountable.
Accountability means an end to revolving door justice. It means greater safety and security for all of us. Accountability makes second chances possible. Read More
Robinson: Why I Support UNM-LA
By JAMES ROBINSONAlmost 10 years ago, I walked across the stage and received my high school diploma. After all the pomp and circumstance and 12 years in school (nine spent as an out of district student), my only plan was to get out of Los Alamos. Packing up, I moved out to California that August to live the Hollywood life. However, after nine months, the Hollywood life beat me down. Realizing that I could not make it in California, I moved back home and started to look at furthering my education.
I had friends at every college in New Mexico, so I started weighing my options. UNM of course was at Read More
Letter To The Editor: Why I Am Voting For Question 1
By KYLE WHEELERI will be voting FOR Question 1 to abolish the position of an elected office of the sheriff. I first got involved in this issue when I served on the Charter Review Committee. We thoroughly reviewed the Charter line by line. The issue of an elected sheriff was one of quite a few issues we considered. Since then, I have been reading the various letters and opinions on this issue and want to add my reasons for supporting Question 1.
First of all, the idea that the sheriff is going to root out corruption in our town is ridiculous. I’ve known many elected officials in this town over the Read More
Letter To The Editor: Why Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard Should Continue Serving Our House District 43
By BILL WADTI want to share why I will be voting for Stephanie Garcia Richard to continue serving as our State Representative.
The good news is that both candidates, Stephanie and Sharon Stover, are dedicated public servants who clearly care about children and youth and building a more vibrant economy that benefits everyone.
However, there are three major reasons why I think a vote for Stephanie is a vote to support our teachers and improve education and a vote for Sharon is a vote to support our Governor’s current education policies that denigrate our teachers and hurt our students. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Why I Am Voting For Sharon
By KELLY BONERI would like to take a minute of your time to let you know why I am supporting Sharon Stover for NM House Rep., District 43. My letter is not about specific issues nor is it against our current rep., (I’ve heard she’s a fine person) it is only about the person I know and why I am voting for Sharon.
To me, Sharon is the perfect example of the kind of person I want my state rep to be. She is smart, an extremely hard worker, and she is kind, caring Read More
